Our Home: The Historic Sarina Courthouse

The voluntary members of the Sarina Community Art and Craft Cooperative Ltd operate the Sarina Arts and Crafts Centre.

The craft centre is housed in the Historical Sarina Courthouse. This building, built in 1901, has a proud heritage of serving the Sarina community, first as the Courthouse then as a school hall and classroom and finally as the Arts and Crafts Centre.

Since 1995, the building has formed the centrepiece of our precinct which includes the Historical Sarina Watch House built 1901. Mount Pelion State School, built in 1926, is the final historical building to our complex and after being fully restored has been transformed into the administration office and function room.

In 2015 the Arts and Crafts complex won gold in The Mackay Tourism Heritage Building Award category, and again in 2017 bronze for the restoration of the Mount Pelion School. These beautiful and nostalgic buildings stand tall as a testament to our history and are well worth a look.

In 2018 Sarina Arts and Crafts Centre won the gold award at the Mackay Tourism Awards for its contribution to tourism as a voluntary organisation, and a member Judy Langdon was honoured for her voluntary work for tourism.

Our Centre is located in the Sarina Field of Dreams Parkland at the southern entrance to Sarina adjacent to the Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre, which is in the refurbished Sarina Railway Station. Please pop in to say hi and have a look around at our fabulous range of local art and craft (and our famous free cuppa!)
